Yahoo and Apple meet to discuss a deeper iOS partnership

Yahoo could end up providing more than just weather and stocks info to your iPhone and iPad, if CEO Marissa Mayer has her way with the Cupertino company

Yahoo – Apple – iPhone Integration – Main

Yahoo and Apple are in talks to bring more of the internet giant’s content to iOS devices.

According to the Wall Street Journal, no deal is imminent, but the two companies have met to discuss ways in which Yahoo’s service can be more tightly integrated into iOS.

At present, Yahoo’s data powers the iOS Stocks and Weather apps as well as the sports scores provided by Siri, but Yahoo clearly feels it has more to offer, including its news service.

Yahoo has rumoured to have internally contemplated ways in which to get its search results deeply integrated with iOS, but this may be at odds with Apple’s own strategy. Apple currently uses Google as its default search provider and a switch to Yahoo would see them effectively using Microsoft’s Bing engine which powers it.

With the Wall Street Journal’s sources stating that no deal is imminent, it might be some time until we see the results of these meetings.
