Volkswagen is set to unveil two iPhone-optimised models of its iconic Beetle model at the Shanhai Auto Show this week.
The iBeetle and iBeetle convertible will feature a built-in dock and accompanying app that gives iPhone users access to a number of hands-free functions, including music playback, location and photo sharing as well as a view of the car’s vital statistics.
According to VW, the Beetle app will stream music via Spotify or iTunes, read Facebook and iMessages aloud, snap photos from inside the car and post them to social networks and share the iBeetle’s location via a digital postcard. There’s also ‘Expert’ and ‘Trainer’ modes which display the iBeetle’s vital statistics as well as fuel economy values.
Beyond that, the iBeetle will come in a handful of different colour schemes which complement the iPhone’s own colours. The models are expected to hit forecourts in the US in 2014.
