Yesterday we reported on Canonical’s new Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding effort, an attempt to raise $32 million to fund the creation of a seriously high-end, enthusiast focused smartphone that will run both Android and Ubuntu Touch on a phone with the latest technology. The first day went very well for Canonical.
As of writing, the project has raised $3.5 million of its goal, with all 5000 of the day one pre-orders sold out. This figure has already smashed the previous Indiegogo record of around $1 million, however it’s still some ways off the $10 million figure that the Pebble achieved. A new reward tier has been added to try and stem the inevitable drop-off of interesting, with two Edge’s setting you back $1400 rather than one for $830.
If you haven’t yet, check out the Ubuntu Edge project and product video – at the very least, it may be a fantastic Android phone.
