Ubuntu App Showdown challenges development for Ubuntu Touch

Win one of three Nexus 4s running Ubuntu Touch by porting or creating original apps in the new Ubuntu SDK for mobile

Canonical are really pushing to further promote Ubuntu Touch, with the crowd funding campaign getting consistent updates, and now the announcement that this years App Showdown will be focused on developing mobile apps with the new Ubuntu SDK.

Three prizes are up for grabs in two categories – Original Apps and Ported Apps. Two Nexus 4s with Ubuntu Touch pre-installed will be given for the two best original apps, whereas one of the phones will be available to those with the best ported app. All prize winners will also be given the chance to work with the Ubuntu Design and Engineering team, which will help you get your app into Ubuntu Touch at launch as part of the platform.

Apps will be judged on these criteria, General Interest, Features, Quality, Design and Awareness/Promotion. The latter will be judged on how much the team has promoted the app on various social networks and websites. You can find out more details of what these contains on the Showdown website, and which judges you’ll need to impress/bribe to help you win.

The contest starts today, 7th August 2013, and runs until Sunday 15th September 2013.
