Time Warner CEO Jeffrey Bewkes has pledged his support for an Apple-built HD TV. When asked about the possibility of Apple building its much-rumoured Apple TV in an interview with Business Insider, Bewkes said, “I hope they do. I think Apple is a great device company.”
Bewkes cited Apple’s ability to create intuitive interfaces as one reason why a possible Apple TV could be a great device. “They bring good interface and navigation skills,” Bewkes said, referencing the need for a simple interface to navigate through the hundreds of channels available to US cable customers.
Rumours surrounding a possible Apple-built HD television set really fired up when Walter Issacson’s Steve Jobs biography featured an admittance by Steve Jobs that he’d been working on a “simple and elegant” TV and that he felt he had “cracked it”.
Despite being rumoured for some time, Apple’s elusive television is rumoured to be held back by a lack of distribution deals with major US cable providers, but with big names such as Time Warner CEO Bewkes coming out in support of the device, a 2013 launch doesn’t seem entirely impossible.
