After the announcement of iOS 7 last week, not everyone was as in love with iOS 7 as Apple had hoped. Many designers went straight to their Macs and PCs and started immediately correcting some of the errors they thought Jony Ive, and Apple, had made with the new operating system. We agree with them, too – several of the standard app icons aren’t quite right and there are certain interface aspects that, on the surface, could do with some improvement. We’d stress that, having used the OS for a few days, it’s a very different animal in the flesh (in fact, for the most part it looks absolutely lovely up close) but we still have our fingers crossed for some changes before the final release.
Below, we’ve collected some of the best ideas and mockups for redesigning the icons of iOS 7. Check them out, and let us know what you like, what you hate and what you want to change about the new operating system.
- Bill Labus’ excellent Maps suggestion from Dribble offers some small tweaks that make a big difference(http://dribbble.com/blabus)
- John Gill’s first suggestion – the top half of the Home screen (http://dribbble.com/gillennium)
- And the bottom half (from John Gill – http://dribbble.com/gillennium)
- We particularly like the Videos app icon in Fareast Binsteera’s design (http://dribbble.com/igolf)
- This lovely design from Doney den Ouden tweaks all the icons slightly – and they look much better. The official iOS 7 is on the right (http://dribbble.com/Dexwell)
- We love the Settings icon from JustD’s design, although we’re not sure about the shadows… (http://dribbble.com/justd)
- Ida Swarczewskaja’s redesign includes small icons and a flatter design, and we love the Photos icon (http://dribbble.com/creatrice)
- The smaller icons in Leo Drapeau’s design are nice, but Safari still isn’t quite right (http://dribbble.com/leodrapeau)
- We’ve included this design from Leonardo Zem just because we love the use of the Apple logo on the App Store (http://www.behance.net/leozem)
