Last week, a report surfaced that the Steam for Linux client may be making a public appearance this week, with the previously closed beta opening up to everyone. This time period is also famous to Steam users for the huge Holiday Steam Sale, which last year started on the 19th December – which coincidentally is also today’s date.
The information came from OMG Ubuntu, quoting from the closed beta mailing list, stating that they believe the stability of the client is good enough for more people to test it. “The Open Beta will be available to the public and will increase the current population from 80K to a higher number.” they mentioned.
It’s been six days since this original post, and it’s more than likely that the winter sale will start either very shortly, or tomorrow. What better way to open up the beta with a bang than offering a lot of deals to potential new users?
