Spotify is working to bring the free option of its streaming service to the iPhone, according to a new report from The Verge. The report states that the Stockholm-based streaming service is beginning talks with major record labels to renew their licensing agreements and will push for price breaks and the ability to operate the free (ad-supported) option of its service on mobile devices.
If Spotify’s negotiations are successful, iOS users will be able to listen to its extensive library for free, albeit with a few ads thrown in to make things economical, on their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. The service already has a free streaming option on the Mac, but users currently need a paid account to listen to Spotify on the go.
