Sony Xperia Tablet Z: 1.5GHz quad-core, Android 4.1 and thinner than the iPad

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the latest high-end device from Sony. But is it a case of style over substance?

Following up from their recent unveiling of the Xperia Z smartphone at CES 2013, Sony have announced  the accompanying tablet, and the next device in their Xperia range, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.

Packing a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 full HD display, alongside a 1.5GHz quad-core processor means you’ll get both a powerful tablet that should also look the part. There’s also 2GB of RAM for even more power and 32Gb of internal storage that’s also expandable via the microSD slot. Although it uses the traditional black slab look, it includes a rather stylish backplate with the Xperia logo in the centre, and at just 6.9mm thick it’s thinner than the iPad Mini.

Whether you think trying to take photos with your tablet is a good idea or not, Sony have equipped the Tablet Z with a 8.1 megapixel rear camera to give you a great choice to use it if need be.

At the time of writing, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is currently set for a Japan release. We’ll update you more when we know more about a worldwide release, and the important issue of pricing.
