There may not be much information about the iPad 5 just yet, but case makers are already starting to produce cases for the next tablet based on leaked measurements. MiniSuit sent MacRumors a photo of its newly designed case for the upcoming iPad, based on data and specifications that come from what they say is a reliable source. The case, in the centre of the image below, backs up earlier rumours that the iPad 5 will feature an iPad mini-like design, with a narrow and thinner frame but the same 9.7-inch display.
The hole on the back of the case is for a microphone – based on leaked photos of the rear-shell of the iPad 5 a few months ago, it’s believed that Apple will move the microphone from the top of the device for the next iPad.
As always with these situations, take these photos with a pinch of salt. A couple of years ago, a case manufacturer gambled on the shape of the iPhone 5, with curved edges and a thinner design, only to lose $50,000 when the iPhone 4S was released with a similar design to the iPhone 4. These case designs are based on leaks, so there is still no guarantee that this is the final design. Still, with more and more evidence (and some lovely mockups) pointing towards this thinner casing, it’s looking increasingly likely. Stay tuned for more information as and when we get it.
