These days, climate change is never far from the headlines. But little attention is paid to the impact that rising global temperatures can have outside the environment itself. Communicating the impact that climate change has on human health is the core driver behind this innovative site.
“With the recent publication of the WHO & WMO’s Atlas Of Heath And Climate, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to visualise the data in an interactive and engaging way,” commented Tom Tapper, Creative Director at Nice and Serious.
The sobering message that this site design had to communicate meant approaching the subject matter with the view to making it accessible without scaremongering. Tom continued: “We started by compiling the statistics and wire-framing the layout of the site. From there we fleshed out the design and began constructing the elements in the browser. There was a lot of trial and error involved with some of the elements as we continually refined the functionality of the site.”
And functionality is a key component here. Simply presenting statistics was never the core of this site. Some level of interaction was always part of the design to that ensure the viewer is not simply a passive observer. The clean and spacious design, coupled with a sensibility to colour and layout ensure that this site more than delivers its message.
