International tourism is big business and top destinations across the globe must use everything at their disposal to attract visitors. With an online world now capable of bringing everyone that much closer together, web experiences such as Travel Alberta Tripplanner have a vital promotional role to play.
The project was commissioned by Travel Alberta, the official tourism marketing organisation for Alberta and has been produced purposefully to perform consistently across desktop, tablet and mobile.“Together with advertising agency Eigen Fabrikaat we created a responsive browser-based app that guides you to some famous places and hidden gems in the Canadian state of Alberta,” explains Daan Klaver, head of design at Build in Amsterdam. “By using inspirational images we offer users a visual-based experience of the touristic highlights. In order to make the app usable for every target audience we divided the flow in a very intuitive and distraction-free navigation structure.”
By traversing a series of split-screen categories the content is tailored quickly and everything kept bold and focused. Much more akin to a browser-based app than a traditional site, it’s nice to see an experience that won’t just entice holidaymakers to the area but also prove accessible during the visit. Seamless integration with Google Maps and links to local amenities is a big bonus here, applying substance to the sleek presentation.
