Site of the week: The Office of John Cheese

In the constant quest for originality, this agency site adopts a persona of its own via some slick design tricks

Marketing your brand in unique and inventive ways online is tough, especially for creative agencies. However, thankfully these guys are creative and ingenious enough to put a new spin on selling a fairly abstract product.

The Office of John Cheese is an Australian outfit from West Perth offering imaging services, all under the guise of a made-up mystery man. A shadowy figure lurking in the background, John Cheese’s presence purveys the content through quotes and humorous media clippings. Designed by Perth ‘neighbours’ (pun intended) Humaan, the site also sparkles on desktop, tablet and mobile.

“With an eclectic identity and a company personified by a fictional character, our aim was to deliver a website that reflected the brand in a holistic manner and carried the personality forward,” explains Jay Hollywood, Humaan’s creative director.

“Using HTML5 techniques we were able to deliver a site that engages, informs and delights, from the subtle smoke on the homepage to the jQuery animated menu, subtle CSS3 transitions and the single-page-style AJAX loading. It was important that the website was accessible across all devices, and the responsive approach allows us to continue the seamless experience throughout. Most importantly, each page was carefully considered to allow the content to shine and provide purpose, offering an experience that closely reflects the brand.”
