Site of the Week: Hello Monday

With an abundance of dynamic and engaging features across the site, it looks like Mondays just got a whole lot more attractive

Apparently on a quest to turn the worst day of the week into the best, Hello Monday is a digital creative agency founded out of Denmark in 2006. Now operating from offices in New York and Aarhus, Copenhagen, they specialise in crafting award-winning experiences across web, tablet and mobile.

Thankfully this great work is exemplified through this latest incarnation of hellomonday.com, the official portfolio site brimming with personality. Starting with a revolving header featuring a series of Icelandic landscapes and latitudinal co-ordinates, the page below springs to life as you start to scroll. Content relating to recent projects is chopped up and modularised, loading gradually and jumping into view. Photographic panels are inter-spliced by rollover blocks and tabs, forming an asymmetrical structure to the stacking elements.

“We wanted our new agency site to be accessible to everyone, but offer special features for the different devices,” says Hello Monday senior developer Joey Maese. “We allowed larger screens to display a more content-rich experience, whereas mobile gets tweaked to facilitate finger-based gestures, and desktop offers more animation to enrich the design. One of the most prominent desktop features is the Gravity-Defying Polygon Display™, which allows content to slide into place as the user scrolls. Built using plain JavaScript and CSS3 transitions, it’s a simple effect with a big impact.”

Pages for featured projects can be lengthy, although the careful use of colour versus white space is effective
