Samsung is the indisputable giant of the Android world

Almost half of all smartphones sold in Europe are Samsung – Could the S4 become the best selling Android phone ever?

According to the latest figures from Kantar World Panel, almost half of all smartphones sold in Europe are Samsung. This is a staggering figure and the success of Samsung in recent years has helped Android to gain a 70.4% share across the five major European markets, far higher than the 17.8% share for iOS or 6.8% held by Windows.

Part of Samsung’s success can be attributed to the shear amount of publicity that the brand has generated for itself. From X Factor sponsorship to the sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, Samsung has been all over our televisions, newspapers and magazines, and its efforts have certainly not been wasted as the figures above show.

Earlier this year, Samsung managed to continue to ride this wave of publicity creating a huge amount of hype to surround the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4, their new flagship device. Andy Betts, Editor of Android Magazine, says of the S4 that ‘the device has relatively few real standout features yet put all changes together – a refined design, better screen, faster processor and a whole lot more software – and it’s clear this is a radical improvement on last year’s S III’.

The S III went on to become the best selling Android phone ever and it looks as though the S4 is near to beating this record as Samsung have announced that they’ve shipped 20 million devices since its launch earlier this year. Although not all of these have been sold, it looks like the flagship device is certainly well on its way to breaking the record.

The S4 is not the only device that Samsung has to offer though, with a range of over 40 smartphones and more than a handful of tablets, there is a product within their range to suit everyone’s needs.
