Galaxy S4 specs and features

Specs leaked to SamMobile via an AnTuTu benchmark test appear to confirm that the Galaxy S4 will be powered by an octa-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.8GHz, PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU and 2GB of RAM.

It shows there will be 16GB and 32GB versions, a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera. It will also be a 4G handset.

The device will run Android 4.2 out of the box. Less is currently known about the TouchWiz software on the S4. Eye tracking is expected to be among its key features, and the company was also believed to be working on something called Samsung Orb, a variation on the Photo Sphere function found in Android 4.2.

Update – the full Galaxy S4 specs are now available.

Galaxy S4 design

The S4 is expected to be based around a 5-inch, 1080p display. Judging by the teased images from Samsung, and the apparent leaked hands-on of the device the S4 will not be a radical departure from the design of the Galaxy S3.

It may also sport a carbon fibre finish, although in line with pretty much all of Samsung’s devices – regardless of price and market position – we would expect the predominant material used in the S4’s casing to be plastic.

Update – the device is indeed predominantly plastic.

Galaxy S4 launch date

The Galaxy S4 will be unveiled at an event in New York, at 7pm (11pm UK time) on Thursday 14th March.

Galaxy S4 release date and price

The Galaxy S4 may be on sale as early as 28th March, or certainly by mid-April, and we’d expect it to be available for pre-order from Friday 15th March. The price is likely to be in line with other flagship Android devices, meaning upwards of £500 SIM-free in the UK, and on contracts starting at around £30 per month (and more for a 4G deal).

Update – the Galaxy S4 will be on sale from 26th April.
