Plasma Media Center, aka KDE TV, out now

The Plasma Media Center, built on KDE, offers a “rich experience” in its first release as a competitor to many other open source HTPC offerings

It’s the third time this week that we’re reporting on FOSS media centre offerings, however this one is no less important to HTPC owners, or open source advocates. The folks at KDE have released the first version of their own media centre interface in the form of Plasma Media Center, or PMC.

XBMC Plex Boxee HTPC

Version 1.0.0 is available now, and runs on anything that can use KDE software. Right now, it can browse and play local media and pictures, get photos from online services and create playlists. It also has a plugin system for developers to start building on.

The software obviously has some way to go, but it’s a good first step for it. You can download PMC from the official repository.
