No major Ubuntu phones until 2015

Ubuntu Touch may not be on Samsung or HTC devices this year, according to Canonical community manager in Reddit AMA

Last week, we reported on Jono Bacon’s claim that multiple Ubuntu phones would be making their way to market this year. The community manager for Canonical mentioned this on his weekly Google Hangout, which is archived on YouTube. This came only weeks after Mark Shuttleworth himself mentioned that a partnership was in place for a phone in 2014.

For those wondering who these partners are, Bacon’s reply to a question in a recent AMA may be a little disappointing. Asked about the kind of person that would be ideally buying the Ubuntu phones, Bacon replied that any projections for users are short term right. In the long term, they’d “love to see the major OEM/Carriers shipping Ubuntu handsets. This is a long road though with many components, and I would be surprised if we see anything like this before 2015.”

Do you see yourself getting an Ubuntu Phone, or will you wait until bigger partners are announced for it?
