More companies have joined the Linux Foundation today, and there’s a bit of a theme running among the five new companies. Newcomers Amarula Solutions, Freescale, and the SIM Technology Group are all involved in telecommunications, whether it be through embedded systems or radio and wireless technology. The other two joining them, the Superb Internet Corporation and Symphony Teleca Corporation offer web storage and cloud services.
The press release accompanying this announcement talked of the accomplishments of Linux as a whole this year:
“Linux has emerged as the dominant operating system in a variety of markets over the last decade. It has seen major advancements this year in its role for embedded development and cloud computing. An accelerated pace of development to support these areas is expected for 2013. The Linux Foundation’s newest members are joining the organization now to maximize their investments in Linux for these areas as they prepare for the New Year.”
