It was the 1st September 2003 that the first development version of MPlayer 1.0 was released – almost nine years ago. Now finally, after nine years development time and countless betas and release candidates, MPlayer 1.0 has been dropped. Instead, MPlayer 1.1 has been released.
MPlayer 1.1 is compatible with the recent release of FFmpeg 0.11, relying on that to cut down on some of the internal libraries used by MPlayer. There’s also support for more subtitle types, mainly for Blu-rays, and “many improvements” to the output of 10-bit video.
You can grab the tarballs of MPlayer now from the MPlayer website, now in both xz and gzip varieties.
