February is arguably the best month to be an Android fan thanks to the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. In 2012, HTC took centre stage by unveiling their One series, Huawei announced the Ascend D Quad, and Sony launched their Xperia P and U devices. But with the Android ecosystem constantly changing, and the tech behind devices consistently improving, MWC 2013 will hopefully be an event to remember. So read on as we round-up all the hype, rumours and promises from Samsung, Sony, HTC and the rest for what they’ve planned for MWC 2013.
HTC at MWC 2013
HTC had a tremendous year at MWC 2012, with their One series stealing the show. This year will hopefully see HTC finally unveil the HTC M7 phone – a 5″ behemoth that includes a 13-megapixel camera and quad-core processor. There’s also a small chance we’ll see a few details announced about an updated version of the Sense user interface as well.
Samsung at MWC 2013
Last year’s MWC wasn’t a big thing for Samsung, and they instead put together their own event to launch the Samsung Galaxy S3. Chances are we’ll see exactly the same this year with the Galaxy S4 as well. That isn’t to say it’ll be a no-go area for them, and we expect to see a few smaller devices unveiled from the current kings of the Android universe.
Sony at MWC 2013
The Xperia Z was a massive hit at this year’s CES tech show, so the chances of any new, major devices are slim. But, similar to Samsung, they often use MWC to launch a couple of mid-range devices, so expect a few more additions to the Xperia library of phones to be announced.
Huawei, ZTE and Asus
ZTE have often used MWC to launch a whole array of new budget devices, so expect more of the same this year around. Huawei become a prominent name in the world of Android, and with several notable devices launching throughout 2012, and if rumours are to be believed, they could be launching a new 5″ device called the Ascend P2. Not much has been said about Asus so far, but they did have a brilliant MWC 2012, so maybe, just maybe, they’ve got something up their sleeves.
