Tapbots, the developers behind Tweetbot for iPhone and iPad, have announced a Mac version of their popular Twitter client – Tweetbot for Mac. Released yesterday, Tweetbot for Mac is available from the Mac App Store for £13.99/$19.99 – a price that hasn’t sat well with every fan of the app, which has been in Alpha and Beta since July. Tapbots’ Mark Jardine said in a blog post that the reason behind the pricing was due to Twitter’s recent changes to their developer API and enforcement of token limits, effectively putting a cap on how many sales of the new Mac app the company can make. Despite this, Jardine assured users that “Tapbots will continue to support Tweetbot for Mac for existing customers at that time.”
Despite its somewhat high asking price, Tweetbot for Mac sports a pretty impressive set of features that include; timeline syncing with its iOS equivalents via iCloud, Retina-ready graphics for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display and Notification Center support for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. If you’re a fan of Tweetbot on your iPhone or iPad, then it’s well worth checking out its older brother on the Mac. We’ve been testing the Alpha and Beta and, from limited time spent with the paid version, we’re pretty impressed. It’s available to buy from the Mac App Store now.
