While Jawbone is a relatively new player in the speaker market, it has already made quite a namef or itself. The Jambox, a brilliant compact wireless speaker, now has a big brother in the Big Jambox.

It too is relatively small and portable, and thanks to the rechargeable battery and Bluetooth connectivity it’s also completely wireless. Switching it on will not only bring a pleasingly futuristic sound (which can be disabled), it will also put it into pairing mode. The speaker manages to keep the quality of the music incredibly high, even at the highest volumes. But what’s fantastic is that the small Jambox speaker can easily pump out enough sound to fill a busy room without any distortion.

The LiveAudio technology is genuinely impressive, too. Built-in algorithms analyse the sound from your Music app, or from a range of other apps on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and use the speaker to create a 3D effect. We were surprised by how good it all sounded, and once it was on we didn’t switch it off. We would’ve liked a little more punch to the bass, but aside from that, and the really high price, we can’t do anything but recommend the Big Jambox.

Pros Great sound, easy to set up, a long-lasting battery and wired connection options

Cons More bass would be welcome, and the price is high
