iOS 7 Mac icon project: Skype and Terminal

Skype and Terminal are redesigned with an iOS 7 flavour in the latest project update

I’m back on your requests now, and with a long list (well over 20) icons remaining, I thought it might be a good idea to do two at once. I started with Terminal, which was really very straightforward. The ‘flat’ iOS 7 design aesthetic limited me in what I can do; the original icon is designed to look like a screen, with individual pixels visible and glowing text. The iOS 7 version gets rid of all that, creating a basic black and white design that uses the iOS 7 font, Helvetica Neue.

I used a similar technique on the Skype icon. The old design is already pretty basic, with a gentle gradient and a large letter. I intensified the gradient slightly and changed the font of the S to the iOS 7 standard to make the app fit a little better with others in the project. I didn’t want to change the shape of the icon as a whole, as it’s so well known.

You can grab both the icons below. I’ll be working through more of your requests in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
