iOS 7 Mac icon project: Microsoft Word

The icon project returns at last with an icon for Microsoft Word – and more of the office suite will be added over the next few days

icon comparison

The iOS 7 Mac icon project is back! After a long break, it has returned with an icon for Microsoft Word. With the recent release of the iOS version of Microsoft’s app suite, I thought it was high time I got back on top of the icon project. And where better to start than with Word?

For this icon, I stuck very close to Microsoft’s own design. I actually quite like the new icons – they’re simple, clean, and display what the apps do without any fuss. There’s a slight shadow, which breaks slightly with Apple’s own flat designs, but overall I like the new direction with these icons (and with the apps themselves).

You can expect me to finish off the rest of the suite in the next few days, as they are all relatively similar. From there I will be back on top of the icon project, and will start working on your numerous requests. I’m still trying to come up with a good idea for Final Cut Pro X and Aperture, both of which are difficult to translate into the flat iOS 7 style. I’ll make them my priority for the next few weeks.

For now, grab the icon below, check out my previous designs, and don’t forget to use LiteIcon, which is an ace little app for making icon management easier in Mavericks.
