Today I tackled the second of the iLife icons, and decided to do things a little differently once again. Like with my iPhoto icon, I tried to take inspiration from both the OS X and iOS 7 versions of the app, and the result is a more colourful icon that really stands out in the dock.
My first action was to completely remove the gold effect that was on the previous icon. With iOS 7, icons aren’t supposed to look like real items, and that’s what the iMovie icon was trying to do. Instead, I took the red colour from the background of the iOS icon (which features a star on a stage, with curtains behind) and used it as the main colour for the square. I simplified things by straightening out the icon, and used blocks of plain white and grey on the rest of the icon. I’m really happy with the result.
You can grab the icon below, along with the others in the project, and this is another icon that you’ll need Candybar for. To find out how to apply it with Candybar, check out our guide.
