This one is a little bit different, but it’s something that’s been bothering me for a long while – the Trash icon. When I was working on my first design, it always bothered me that I wasn’t really working from Apple’s own version of the icon, but I just hadn’t been looking closely enough at the new operating system. Now I’ve been using it for the last few days, I’ve got a better handle on the design for the icon, and the result is this simple and more minimalist icon. Plus, I based the full trash on the old Trash can icon that so many of us fell in love with back when System 7 was in town.
I won’t remove the previous version of the Trash icon completely, as some people may still prefer it. Personally, I think the new icon looks better, and it might push me to create folder icons for Apps, Documents and Downloads that would look good in Stacks next to Trash in the Dock.
Grab the icon below and let me know what you think of the new design in the comments. I’m interested to see whether people like it more or less than the previous design. You can also get all the other icons in the project below, and remember that you’ll need Candybar in order to apply the Trash icon easily.
