One of the simplest tools a video editor can use is the crop tool. This gives the video specific focus and can really break up scenes, add intensity or simply highlight an important plot element. Using the tool is as easy as cropping a picture and, once done, will easily enhance your final product. Here’s a quick guide to cropping your clips. Use it creatively and sparingly to enhance every iMovie project.
1: Menu option
Click on the Settings cog in a selected clip and then select the bottom option in the contextual menu that appears. This will bring about a change to the viewing window on the right of the interface.
2: Frame it, crop it
Drag the crop area around until you are happy with the area of focus it gives you. When you are happy, hit the Done button– the crop will take shape and you can view it back with your changes enacted.
