I Want One of These: Sphero Robotic Ball

Orbitix demonstrates their new remote control ball at CES '11, and I already want to have a go.

Another stunner from CES reared it’s head today from Orbotix, a company who is developing a remote control ball that you can roll around with your thumb. While it may not be quite as amazing as the Parrot AR Drone, it looks like it will be a hell of a lot cheaper, which suits me nicely.

At the moment it’s just a simply joystick style control method which allows you to roll your ball around the floor and over small jumps using a Bluetooth connection, but bear in mind that this is an early preview from the company who say it will released later this year. The company are currently working on an Augmented Reality control scheme which allows the user to move the ball using the iPhone camera. All you would need to do is point the camera at a point on the floor around you and the ball will roll to it, which to me sounds pretty exciting.

Now we just need someone to design a RC Car or some kind of Battle Robot with a similar system and no more work will ever be done in iCreate Towers.
