The camera on the iPad is great, and in recent years there have been big improvements in the quality and size of the images it can capture. However, not everyone wants to use their tablet to shoot photos and videos, and of course standalone cameras can often offer higher quality images. But what do you do when it comes to editing and sharing these photos? That’s where the Camera Connection Kit handily comes in.

Pick up one of these adapters from the Apple Store and you can connect your camera directly to your iPad, or pop in an SD card and import your shots to your iPad at full resolution for editing. From here you can drop them into any app and share them through your favourite social networks.
Step-by-step: Import with the Camera Connection Kit
1 Hook it up
First, connect up your Camera Connection Kit with your iPad, and plug your camera or SD card into the slot on the kit. Nothing will happen immediately, so don’t expect a pop-up.
2 Open Photos
Tap the Photos icon to open up the app. You’ll see that alongside the Photos, Shared and Albums tabs at the bottom of the screen, a new Import option will appear.
3 Tap Import
Tap this icon and you’ll be taken to a similar-looking screen that displays all of the photos and videos on your SD card or camera as thumbnails that, sadly, you can’t view larger.
4 Import all
If you want to simply import every photo on the camera or SD card, tap Import in the top-right. Images that have already been imported will be marked with a green tick.
5 Tap to select
Alternatively, if you only want to import a selection of specific images, you can tap the individual photos and videos that you want. A blue tick will appear when they’re selected.
6 Import
When you are happy with your selection tap the Import button. You’ll still have the option to Import All the images on the card or camera if you want, or just those you’ve selected.
