Google sells Motorola for $2.91 billion

Motorola sold to Lenovo by Google for nearly $3 billion after buying Motorola itself in 2012 $12.5 billion

hello moto

When Google bought Motorola in 2012, there were many in the tech industry that wondered whether or not the mobile phone manufacturer would be making the next Nexus device. Google themselves said that the purchase was mainly for Motorola’s mobile patents, however as they were one of the more successful Android OEMs it seemed inevitable that the Nexus 5 or 6 would be a Motorola device.

Before even two years have passed, Google has announced it’s sold on Motorola to Lenovo. What once cost them $12.5 billion to buy was sold on for $2.91 billion, although Google managed to keep hold of the mobile patents in the deal.

We’ll be interested to see what direction Lenovo takes Motorola, which apparently isn’t doing so well at the moment.
