Making another leap forward to increase its lead on Apple’s Maps app before we hit WWDC this year, Google has revamped its own Maps app for iOS. The new version provides you even more information about your journeys as you plan routes out and also lets you sign in to your Google account, so you can take advantage of your previous searches to save tapping out new ones on iPhone or iPad.
Here are the new features –
- Saving offline maps is easier – just type a search, tap the result and then tap the save button
- Turn-by-turn navigation shows you distance, arrival time and lets you quickly switch to alternate routes
- Routes now tell you which lane you need to be in while driving
- Public transport routes now incorporate walking time between transport links
- Integration with your iOS contacts
- Tap and hold to drop pins and quickly share locations
- New scale bar shows distances on the map
- Sign to use your Google account search data
- Dictate searches using Google Voice Search
The update is out now, and if you haven’t already downloaded the app then you can get Google Maps here.
