Google I/O 2014: Android One announced to bring affordable devices to emerging countries

Android One project announced

The first major announcement at Google I/O is Android One, a unique project targeted at emerging countries. Android One looks to bring high quality and affordable hardware to billions of users who don’t have the luxury of high-end devices.

What makes these devices so unique is that they will run stock Android from the get go and be officially supported by Google themselves. Users will be able to take advantage of automatic updates and auto-install options for their apps.

Google is currently working with 3 carriers in India to get the program underway, but expect it to be a global project by the end of the year.
