Contributor Martin Nordholt has recently revealed a ballpark release date of December 27th 2010 for the hotly anticipated version 2.8 update of the popular open source image manipulation program, GIMP.
In a recent blog post Nordholt (known among the GIMP community as Enselic) announced the date as part of a bigger blog post that also reveals the existence of a scheduled for work on version 2.8, the next stable release after version 2.6.
“Creating a schedule was not letely uncontroversial,” states Nordholt. “People pointed out that if we have an estimated release date it will surely be misinterpreted as a definite release date, and if we don’t meet it, people will be annoyed.”
Nordholt goes on to say that he believes a schedule will have a positive impact on development of the popular program, not least to help prompt decisions on feature to include and remove between releases.
