Resembling a radial version of the classic Breakout, Starific is an intense and endless arcade game requiring fast reactions to keep your shooting star in play. At least, that’s the case at first, in the default Arcade mode. Later on you’ll unlock extra modes – including Moves, which involves a more strategic style of play.
Since each octagonal arena is generated procedurally, it’s different every time you play. And with your star making rapid changes in direction whenever it encounters a block, you need to stay alert and position your rotating exterior paddle accordingly to knock it back into the arena. Adding interest are bombs that start chain reactions, along with a wide variety of power-up effects, including a split paddle, multiple stars and score multipliers. There are also quests to complete, such as collecting a certain number of bombs. Money earned (including from watching video ads) can be spent on prize wheel spins in the game to unlock more items, including a vast range of colour themes.
The game is highly customisable too, with options for difficulty, arena size and controls. With stylish visuals accompanied by an impressive electronic soundtrack, it all adds up to a stellar experience.
