Firefox introduces improved private browsing

A new Firefox feature is being added to the Nightly Builds, with oft requested private browsing mode used by many other browsers to eventually reach the release version

Today Mozilla announced that a new private browsing mode would be entering the Nightly Builds channel for Firefox, different from the current version that’s in the stable Firefox to be more in line with something like the Incognito mode from Google’s Chrome and Chromium.

A new window rather than a restarted session

This means that the new private browsing feature will launch a new window without closing the session first – apparently a rewrite the Mozilla devs have been working on for around two years:

“In order to make this possible, we have redesigned the existing private browsing mode from scratch. This was a huge project, and we received a lot of help from the Mozilla community, without which this would not have been possible. We would like to thank everyone in the Mozilla community who helped us with implementing this feature; and a huge thanks to Ehsan Akhgari for managing this project.”

Nightly builds for Firefox can be obtained on the official channel.
