Cut the Rope review

Ingenious, infectious, simple and addictive. Is there anything else that needs to be said? Yes, it's only 62p... Why haven't you downloaded it already?!

The legendary iPhone game finally makes its way to Android. Cut the Rope is an ingenious effort where the objective is to deliver candy into the mouth of as little monster named Om Nom. Candy is initially attached to ropes – so cutting the rope at the right moment releases it. Simples!

Well, not really, as with all great puzzlers clever level design and a beautifully paced learning curve ramps up the difficulty and addictiveness in just the right way. Later levels contain a variety of obstacles and other complications. There are spiders that can crawl up the ropes, bubbles that can be used to waft the candy upwards or elastic ropes to bounce it across the screen into natural hazards. And then there’s the bonus stars – three per level – that prove increasingly hard to collect but prove manically compulsive once you master the basics.

With several zones to play through, each containing up to 20 levels, Cut the Rope contains just the right level of frustration to make it hugely addictive.
