It was only a few days ago that Arduino announced that they had a partnership with Intel to make an Atom-powered Arduino board – one much more powerful than the Yun, one of the more powerful Arduino products ever made. It was a huge step over the Yun, something that could perform little more than networking functions, but Arduino has already announced another board that will do the same.
The Arduino TRE is a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 and Linux powered board, with an additional AVR-based Arduino microcontroller making it a two-in-one board. This allows for the use of Arduino in more high performance applications, such as 3D printing, building automation and telemetry hubs. The TRE shares some of the same hardware as the BeagleBone Black, which is unsurprising as the TRE is the result of a collaboration with the BeagleBoard.org foundation.
The Arduino TRE is expected to release in Spring on next year, and you can find out more about it in the announcement post.
