Apple updates processors and drops prices for MacBooks

Apple has quietly updated its MacBook lines with Retina display and Air models getting spec bumps, price drops or both

Apple has quietly announced that it’s making a number of its MacBooks more powerful and more affordable. The MacBook Pro with Retina Display line has seen the biggest changes, but there has also been a price drop for the high-end 13″ MacBook Air.

The full list of updates is listed below. As always, customers who have bought one of the updated Macs in the last 14 days will be able to exchange it for a new model, so if you have just dived in and bought a MacBook make sure you head back to the Apple Store before your 14-day period is up.

13-inch MacBook Air (256GB): Now £1,199/$1,399 (reduced from £1,249/$1,499)

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (128GB): Now £1,249/$1,499 (was £1,449/$1,699)

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (256GB): Now £1,449/$1,699 (was £1,699/$1,999), 2.6GHz processor (up from 2.5GHz)

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (256GB): Now 2.4GHz quad-core i7 (up from 2.3GHz)

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (512GB): Now 2.7GHz quad-core i7 (up from 2.6GHz)

It’s thought that the price drops have been made possible by the improvements in the production of new MacBooks.

CUPERTINO, California—February 13, 2013—Apple® is making the MacBook Pro® with Retina® display faster and more affordable with updated processors and lower starting prices. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display now starts at $1,499 for 128GB of flash, and $1,699 for a new 2.6 GHz processor and 256GB of flash. The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display now features a faster 2.4 GHz quad-core processor, and the top-of-the-line 15-inch notebook comes with a new 2.7 GHz quad-core processor and 16GB of memory. Apple today also announced that the 13-inch MacBook Air® with 256GB of flash has a new lower price of $1,399.
