Apple improves iWork’s Office compatibility for Mac and iOS

Pages, Numbers and Keynote now play better with Microsoft Office on your Mac, iPhone and iPad thanks to an update to the entire iWork suite for OS X and iOS

iWork update - Main

Apple has released an update to both its iOS and OS X flavours of Pages, Numbers and Keynote – known collectively as iWork. The updates aren’t too much to write home about, save for some improved compatibility with Microsoft’s Office suite. There’s also improved compatibility between iWork for iOS and iWork for OS X.

Each app has its own set of improvements; Pages gets the ability to lock and unlock objects, as well as improved compatibility with tracked changes, Numbers gains a hide/unhide columns and rows feature and compatibility with filters imported from Excel, and Keynote features a few new slide transitions and printing options for slides.

With Microsoft Office for iOS pencilled in for an early 2013 launch, Apple will face a renewed pressure to update the iWork suite and this update goes some way to alleviate it.
