Apple celebrates a decade of iTunes with in-app microsite

After ten years of selling music, movies and more, Apple looks back at the milestones of iTunes since its launch in 2003

Apple is celebrating ten years of its iTunes Store with a microsite that opens within the Store itself. iTunes launched on April 25th 2003, and the celebratory feature has been placed front and centre in the main Store home page.

The timeline itself is an expanded version of the iPod + iTunes Timeline that has been available on Apple’s site for a while, but the new timeline walks through a number of important events in the last ten years such as the launch of the iPod nano, the addition of movies and TV shows to the store, and the creation of the iPhone and iPad.

The page also shows the top selling songs and albums for each year, as well as marking landmarks in downloads. Apple sent out a beautiful press releases to announce the Decade of iTunes, as this photo from Luke Hopewell shows:
