App review: Food Additives

Developer: Medical
Category: WebArtisan
Price: £2.39

This app may not get much of a score on the Fun rating, but that’s because it’s designed to inform rather than entertain.

If you look at the ingredients on the packaging of many food products you’ll notice that they are crammed with E numbers.  These food additives may seem meaningless to us, but some of them could have a detrimental effect on your health. Take food additive E102 for example. The app informs us that this food colouring additive is called Tartarzine.  By tapping on the additive’s entry the screen flips to show potential side effects like asthma attacks and hyperactivity in kids. As the database is self-contained you can browse the app’s content without being connected to the net.

The price may seem a bit steep for an app, but good health is priceless. They do say ‘you are what you eat’. This app will help you make a more informed choice about what you put into your diet.
