Priced at a very reasonable $199 (£127), the Kindle Fire will be Amazon’s first foray into the tablet market. The device will run Android, although which version has yet to be confirmed and will have full access to the Android app market.
The Kindle Fire also boasts a 7″ IPS panel, Gorilla Glass coating, a dual core CPU and a chassis that weight 14.6 ounces.
The low price tag does come with certain sacrifices, with both a camera and microphone missing from the Kindle Fire, although consumers will find Wi-Fi and a 30-day trial of Amazon Prime.
As well as the Kindle Fire, Amazon have also announced the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G, with prices starting at just $99 (£64).
